The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights have a new webinar on YouTube, Accessible Public Schools. It covers ways school districts can increase accessibility of their school buildings and facilities for students and teachers with disabilities.
The Justice Department worked with the Department of Education to develop the webinar. It responds to a 2020 U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigation and report: School Districts Need Better Information to Help Improve Access for People with Disabilities. That report outlined accessibility barriers for students with disabilities in the nation’s K-12 public school buildings and recommended the federal government provide additional resources for school districts.
