Bill seeks to make leased Guam government offices accessible for people with disabilities

Posted on December 18, 2023

  • Sen. Parkinson wants all Guam leased government offices to follow the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and has introduced Bill 191-37.

  • This law would make offices accessible to everyone.

  • Sen. Parkinson talks about how hard it is for people with disabilities when these offices aren’t accessible.

  • He says nobody should be stopped from using government services because of a disability.

  • Bill 191 would give the Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities the power to check if places follow the ADA and recommend solutions if they don’t.

  • Some buildings don’t have to follow these rules if they are old, but important programs should still be accessible.

  • Sen. Parkinson wants these issues fixed quickly.
